The mailer had a photo of Stephen Bradshaw and Diane, his wife of 29 years who is white; painted Bradshaw as a puppet of the county’s three white commissioners – Jeff Rader, Nancy Jester and Kathie Gannon; and said he had voted for former Republican President George Bush.
Barnes Sutton, who has been in office since 2008, got 43.4 percent of the vote to Bradshaw’s 48.4 percent.
They will face off again in a July 26 runoff.
The primary campaign mailer has ignited a firestorm of protest from some of the very constituents Barnes Sutton is hoping will return her to another term of office.
